About The Roanoke Island Inn

Since the advent of The Lost Colony brought a surge of tourism to Manteo in 1937, Roanoke Island folks have welcomed visitors into their homes. In that tradition, The Roanoke Island Inn welcomes you. The origin of our inn was a simple island house built by Asa Warren Jones in the 1860s. The original house has a history of boarding going back to the early 1900s. Deeply rooted in the community, the property once housed the post office and provided housing for those coming to see or perform in The Lost Colony outdoor drama. More than 100 years later, the main house grew into its current eight-room inn layout thanks to previous owners John Wilson (one of Jones’ descendants) and Billy Parker. In 1990 The Roanoke Island Inn as it is seen today on the Manteo waterfront was born. Though The Roanoke Island Inn has only been in operation since 1990, it continues the long tradition of Manteo hospitality and maintains the historic look and feel that are the hallmarks of downtown Manteo. In 2017 Lauren and Jason Borland purchased the inn. In addition to continuing to welcome their many return guests to their home away from home, they are breathing new life and enthusiasm into the business.

Meet The Owners

For generations both of our families have visited the Outer Banks, and finding a way to live here was a dream we shared as long as we’ve known each other. In 2017 we packed up from Northern Virginia and set off to live out that dream. When we're not at the inn, we're busy raising our three young children, JB, Caroline and James.

The Roanoke Island Inn Reviews

A historic boutique hotel located in quaint and beautiful Manteo, the heart of NC's Outer Banks.

“Great Amenities & Location”

Absolutely lovely property and great location. The checkin process was so easy and I received a call from Pam early the day of our arrival to say room was ready and we could check anytime. Love that each room has its own entrance. Also they have a lovely reception room you can hang out in, get a snack or beverage or even store some cold things in the fridge. Will definitely go again.

“We Found A Gem!”

My wife and I had a wonderful experience at the Roanoke Island Inn. The Inn is located in a beautiful location and downtown Manteo is only a few minutes walk away. We really enjoyed the casual, relaxed and "be who you are" atmosphere. Pam, the Innkeeper was wonderful. This was definitely the best B&B experience we ever had.

“Phenomenal Visit!”

My sisters and I stayed at The Roanoke Island Inn during our recent trip to Manteo. Our rooms were lovely, and our experience at the inn exceeded expectations. Pam, the innkeeper, took extraordinary care of us. She attended to any needs or questions, and her personable manner made us feel as if we had known her forever. If we return to the inn, we will do so because of the way Pam made us feel so special.

“Couldn't Be Better!”

When you read so many complimentary reviews about a place you might wonder if it really is that nice. Well, I'm here to tell you it is that NICE and more. My wife and I stayed this past weekend and had a wonderful experience. The Inn is beautiful, our was room lovely. But the best of all was the friendliness, kindness, generosity of the Innkeeper Pam and her assistant Susanne (hope I'm spelling her name right :-). Headed by this New Years Eve and can't wait!
